PEAK OF SEASON SPECIALTY CROP NUTRITION EDUCATION & CULINARY PROGRAM

NUTRITION AND CULINARY EDUCATION, RECIPES, AND PRODUCE SAMPLES FOR YOUTH AND CAREGIVERS.

Through funding from the CDFA Specialty Crop Block Grant, the Pompea Smith Good Cooking/ Buena Cocina team builds on past programming to provide youth, adults, and caregivers — in Title 1 schools — specialty crop education showcasing seasonal variety and specialty crop growers.

Program Highlights:

  • Hands-on nutrition and cooking classes for youth and caregivers highlighting California’s seasonal variety and specialty crop growers at our markets and community-based sites.

  • Four-part “LA Urban Farm” and “CA Farm Tour” video class series for 6th-12th graders with FREE specialty crop samples or specialty crop recipe ingredients for youth in the culinary tract to prepare recipes in the classroom.
