Celebrate CalFresh Awareness Month with SEE-LA!
Spread the awareness of CalFresh/EBT! It has been estimated that only about half of Los Angeles county’s eligible population is actually enrolled with the CalFresh/EBT program. This month, SEE-LA markets have teamed up with the County of Los Angeles Public Health to increase access and awareness at farmers’ markets. DPSS will be at three upcoming markets with their Mobile Unit to enroll potential customers, along with other events:
Thursday, May 16 at the Central Avenue Farmers’ Market (10am-3pm): Ask the Dietitian healthy recipe demo, The Latino Campaign demo and free recipe book giveaway, and Market Match will be offered at the Information Booth (Market Match gives extra fruits and vegetable coupons to those using CalFresh EBT or WIC benefits at the Market-receive $2 extra for $5 in benefits spent).
Saturday, May 18 at the Watts Healthy Farmers’ Market (10am-2pm): Ask the Dietitian will be at the Market, and Market Match will be offered at the Information Booth. There will also be a Community Walk and Resource Fair, which will feature Samba lessons by J.A.M. Sessions, face painting, and a cooking demo. The event will also feature FREE health services, including immunization for children*, blood pressure screening, and dental education. (*Please bring your child’s yellow immunization card)
Sunday, May 19 at the Hollywood Farmers’ Market (8am-1pm): Ask the Dietitian and The Latino Campaign will both be on site with free recipes, cooking demos, and health information as the DPSS Mobile Unit makes its final stop on its’ SEE-LA Market Tour!
